With several hundred homes in the community, Walnut Bend is one of the largest subdivisions in Algiers. The central location means you are only minutes from downtown New Orleans and less than one mile to NSA New Orleans (the new Federal City).
One of my favorite neighborhoods on the West Bank of New Orleans is Algiers Point. From the historic architecture to the walkable streets to the diverse population, it’s definitely a part of the city of New Orleans.

Just south of Woodland Highway in Algiers, the Old Aurora neighborhood features beautifully tree lined streets. The sound of birds chirping can be heard each morning as the sun rises and begins to dapple the streets and front yards of the community. The sprawling branches of the mature oak trees appeal to the recklessness of youth and dare you to see how high you can climb…
Picture this: You leave the office at 5 pm, fighting to get out of the parking lot and into the traffic. Merge, yield, creep, crawl. The traffic breaks up and suddenly you are on your way…home.
Home. Where you can relax on the porch and watch the cranes and egrets as they search for an evening snack.
As the second oldest neighborhood in New Orleans, Algiers Point offers a step into days gone by. Walkable streets, front porches made for sitting and relaxing on and corner stores and restaurants to fill your needs.
A designated historic district, Algiers Point offers homes built in the late 1800s, the early 20th century and even a few newly built houses as well.
One of the newer communities in Algiers, Aurora Riverside offers the safety and security of a gated subdivision and the exclusivity of a small community (only 41 home sites!) combined with a convenient location just off of General Meyer Avenue and backing up to the Mississippi River.
Bocage is a well established neighborhood in Algiers. With quick and convenient access to both NSA New Orleans and NAS JRB New Orleans, Aurora is a terrific option for military families who are relocating to the West Bank.
