Recently, the folks at Business Week put out their list of U.S. cities that are least likely to be impacted by a recession in our economy.  New Orleans placed at #10 and the folks in Baton Rouge can be proud of their #9 ranking as well.

A few excerpts from the online Business Week article:

BusinessWeek.com worked with data from PolicyMap.com, a demographics and data site run by Philadelphia’s Reinvestment Fund, to identify the best places to live during a recession. We looked at places where large portions of the population worked in anticyclical industries such as government, health care, education, agriculture, and legal services.

Baton Rouge and New Orleans have energy-related jobs, but the main strength of their economies is a post-Katrina construction boom.

Cities with a strong presence in health care, education, law, energy, and the government will feel the impact of a downturn less.

With approximately 40% of New Orleans residents working in one of the strong industries that are more resistant to downturns in the economy, we are well positioned to avoid some of the economic meltdowns that other parts of the country, especially those reliant on manufacturing, may experience.

Just another reason to be proud to call New Orleans home!
