Krewe of Choctaw Named Most Improved Parade by Gambit Weekly

Congratulations to the Krewe of Choctaw!  In Gambit Weekly’s review of every 2008 parade in the metro New Orleans area, the Krewes of Choctaw, King choctaworiginal Arthur and Carrollton all tied for the honor of Most Improved Parade.

I have to say that I am so proud of the strides the krewe has made in continuing, and even improving on, the West Bank Mardi Gras tradition.  The move of the parade date from Mardi Gras day to the first Saturday of parading could have resulted in a mass exodus of members.  Instead, the floats were filled to the brim and the line up was chock full of marching bands and units.

Here is the Gambit Weekly review:

Choctaw
Choctaw’s ‘Worldly Travels” collected points in all categories as the impressive float designs and costuming made my head spin amid a whirlwind of color. Well-coordinated rider garb matched well-designed floats that were fresh and new. Most impressive were the variations on Native American headdresses and the Polynesian headdress of the Hawaiian Islands. Another fantastic float included the LSU Tigers. The riders continued their victorious celebration by devoting their energy to including everyone in the fun. Some of the most illusive and highly prized throws included the Choctaw spear. Though the weather was overcast and somewhat chilly for my old bones, that didn’t stop the marching bands from turning out in fine form.

Kudos to the Captain and officers for putting on such a great show…Hail the Chief!
