Wow! There are so many things happening in the next few days on the West Bank, I hardly know where to start. Let’s jump right in…
Algiers Ferry – Mardi Gras Schedule
The Crescent City Connection has announced the Algiers/Canal Street ferry schedule for Mardi Gras. No vehicles will be allowed after 1 pm through Monday and all day on Mardi Gras day.
Gretna Farmer’s Market
Saturday, 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. 301 Huey P. Long Ave at the Gretna Market. Once you have picked up your fresh produce, head on over to…
Pawdi Gras
The Plaquemines Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) is holding its annual canine parade for dogs (and owners too!) on Saturday. Registration for the parade is at 10 am at Gretna City Hall, followed by a costume contest (dogs only) at 10:30. The parade starts at 11 am. Come out and support this wonderful group that operates a no kill shelter in Belle Chasse.
Krewe of NOMTOC
Rolling through Algiers, New Orleans Most Talked Of Club kicks off their 2008 parade at 10:45 am. See the entire parade route here. I’ll be with the Krewe of Choctaw folks tailgating in front of J&K Bar & Grill…hope to see you there!
West Bank Lundi Gras
The City of Gretna is holding its annual Lundi Gras celebration on Monday from 5-10 pm at the Gretna Market. Royalty from several West Bank krewes will be in
attendance with entertainment provided by Marcia Ball, Foret Tradition and Benny Grunch and the Bunch. Food and drinks will be available for sale. This is always a fun event and the covered market place is perfect if the weather doesn’t cooperate!
West Bank Mardi Gras
Back to Gretna on Fat Tuesday for the Krewe of Grela, rolling at 11 am. See the parade route here. HEADS UP! I have it from a super secret source that there will be a new krewe making its debut right behind Grela. Be there to find out for yourself.
When parading over the next few days, please be safe. Don’t drink and drive and take just a moment to review these great Mardi Gras safety rules from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
I hope everyone has a great weekend and a Happy Mardi Gras!
